ALWAYS STUDY the finish when you buy a scarf. Silk, Chiffon and other finelight-weight fabrics look more expensive and luxurious if the edges are hand rolled and stitched, rather than seamed flat. Many manufacturers now have machines that can produce the hand finished high quality effect.Make sure that corners are perfectly stright and lie flat, and that stitching does not pull.On fringed scarves, be certain that the fringing is even and of exatly the right length. If it is too long it may get tangled.

scan0010.jpg HAND-ROLLED EDGES, or machine stitching that gives the same impression, looks expensive and makes a statment about quality.

The edges are literally rolled under and caught in place with tiny, even stitches.

scan0011.jpg On some scarves, fringed edges are the result of threads that have pulled away from a raw edge. On others, the fringing may be added on afterwards–as in hand-knitted scarves–or be formed during the weaving process.

scan0012.jpg Square scarves, however they are worn, should be ironed before they are put away.Always fold them back into smaller squares,in half and then in half again.
