Obesity is the accumilation of excess fat in the body. Wheather or not it is unhealthy, it is certainly unfashionable in modern society. This is not true everywhere in the world.

The treatment (and prevention )of true obecity is nowhere near as simple as the dieteers have led a gullible public to belive.There are many ways to lose weight temproraily and reduce your food intake, you lose weight.(Diet)

Never take redusing pills or other reducing medicines without the personal advice of a doctor. Many contain substances that can be harmful for example ,Thyroid extract, which speeds up metabolism,and central- nervous-system stimulants (eg amphetamine), which may kill the appetite but have undesirable side-effects. The will-power pill, labeled “No” and “NO MORE”, is the only safe redusing pill. Many so-called reducing pills are simply Vitamin pills, offered to assure an adequate vitamin intake during prolonged periods of limited food intake.

The underlying causes of obesity are numerous,but the psychological ones are usually very important. Obesity may reflect failures in digestion and metabolism. It may also represent natural HERIDITY,some people just can’t help beeing fat , their genes make them so. The “tides of life”, as expressed in changes in the ENDOCRINE GLAND, also account for many individual cases of obesity at different ages.

Exercise does not cure obesity. The best it can do is redistribute body fat into less conspicuous places. The only successful reducing exercise is pushing the chair away from the dinner table before you have eaten too much.

Most fat people prefer themselves that way, despite their claims to the contrary. They may diet temporarily, but they soon stop and regain (or surpass) their former weight. This is not necessarily bad. What is bad is to be unhappy about it.

Gluttony is a neurosis (like nervous eating). If a person is cured of gluttony, without any change in his underlying neurotic pattern,the same disturbed feeling and motivations thet drove him to overeat may take another adverse direction, such as gambling, drinking, or fanaticism. The only cure for many types of obesity is PSYCHOTHERAPY. Food gives satisfaction and relief from troubled thoughts to many people. Unless an adquate substitute for food is found, overeating is likely to continue. Some men amd women get and stay fat because it protects them against normal sex feelings and relationships, which they unconsciously fear and hate. They usually put the story the other way around. THEY SAY THEY ARE UNATTRACTIVE TO THE OPPOSITE SEX BECAUSE THEY ARE FAT. tHEY ARE HONESTLY FOOLING THEMSELVES(RATIONALISING).They like it the way it is -or they would change. Food has many subtle meanings to many people, it is related to their family feelings. Sometimes it is taken and given as a substitute for love.

The principal medical objection to obecity is that carrying around extra weight throws a needless burden on the heart and circulation system. With more flesh to supply blood to (and miles more of tiny blood capillaries to pump blood through), the heart has to work harder. Some hearts can take the extra work better than others (Heart Desease)

A second medical objection is that tha intake of fatty foods that often accompanies obesity may tend toward development of atherosclerosis, that is, a fatty lining of the inside of the blood vessels,and thus also induce heart and blood-vessel damage at an early age. This relationship between heart disease and obesity has been much studied and discussed, but it is still unresolved.

To many people a trim figure gives a psychological satisfaction for which they are willing to sacrifice, and thus improve their muscle tone and general health and well-being. This same reasoning does not apply to the neurotic for whom obesity is an ego defense. Cut out his food and he may develop a full-blown Mental illness.(psychosis).
