The big retailers are taking serious action on carbon control in recent times and through their efforts there is a significant reduction with each sq ft of sales space generating less CO2 this year when compared to three years back.

This year in particular, the retailers have constantly been instilling notable multi-fold practices; It is very interesting to know that they have been involving everyone in the supply chain-from the manufacturer and their own employee to the end consumer.

The commitment to save the environment is very commendable-the plan to influence each and every part of the retailers operations over the next five years and is a pledge to become carbon-neutral by 2012.

The progress is slow -as it is business-wide plan, which means fundamentally changing the way the fashion industry operates- it is not just an individual initiative but a chain action involving suppliers and customers. The retailers can make a vast impact on the suppliers as they deal with thousand’s of factories, farms, and workers as well as millions of customers visiting mall’s and stores.
